Outcome: Participants use professional learning networks as both consumers and contributors to increase their professional knowledge and skills.
Portfolio Entry Narrative: As a coach, it is my responsibility to model the correct use of classroom technology. However, it is also my responsibility to model the appropriate use of social media for the purposes of collaborating and networking. This link is to a Storify that I created from my Twitter and Google+ PLNs. I've also spent a considerable amount of time curating several Pinterest boards for the teachers I work with to follow. As I come across great tools (even those that are not technology based), I add them to my boards so other teachers can use them. Another way I have began to expand my PLN, is by creating web mixes on Symbaloo. Since this is a great way for teachers to share their resources with their colleagues and students, I became a certified in Symbaloo EDU.
Being a member of a PLN has helped me grow as a facilitator in many ways. It has helped me gain new ideas by not being stagnant. The educational technology world is a fast-moving and ever changing place. If I do not allow myself the opportunity to grow and learn from others, I will never become a better educator. If I'm not willing to change and learn from others, how can I expect the teachers I work with to do so? I encourage the teachers I work with to follow me on Twitter, Pinterest, and Google+.
As our district moves toward a change in our devices (from Macs to Chromebooks), our teachers are needing even more support in the integration. I began a Pinterest board on everything to do with Google Drive and Chromebooks. During my interactions with teachers, I have been pointing them, very specifically, toward this board for ideas.
I have learned so very much during my curation of these resources. Since I have never used a Chromebook with students, I need to be learning as my teachers learn. This is also something that I'm modeling for my teachers; technology changes so quickly that we are literally learning as our students learn.
